Santiago García-Milà
Deputy Director General of the Port of Barcelona. Former President of The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO)
Holds a degree in Economics and Business Studies from the University of Barcelona and two postgraduate degrees in Strategic Marketing (ESADE) and General Management (IESE). He is currently the Deputy Director General of the Port Authority of Barcelona (Innovation and Business Strategy); former president and board member of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), an organization he chaired from 2015 to 2021; president of PortIC (the Port Community System of the Port of Barcelona); and president of ESPO (The European Sea Ports Organisation) from 2012 to 2016. He also served as chairman of the Intermodality and Logistics Committee from 2008 to 2012 and as chairman of the Port Governance Committee from 2016 to 2020, and has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2008.
He is also the CEO of the Inland Maritime Terminal of the Port of Barcelona in Zaragoza (tmZ). In addition, he is an associate professor of International Marketing in the Master’s in International Trade and Finance at the University of Barcelona and was named Economist of the Year 2017 by the College of Economists of Catalonia.

The goal of this event is to explore opportunities and challenges in the Mediterranean region for Europe and its ports, and to discuss how the European Global Gateway strategy can help shaping the future of this area. We are already counting on the participation of several leading Mediterranean ports, ESPO members, and the European Commission. It would be an honor to enrich the panel with your experience and insights.
The session will focus on:
- Port-led decarbonisation (OPS/shore power, alternative fuels and bunkering readiness).
- Resilient and interoperable maritime logistics linking EU and Southern Neighbourhood value chains
- Blue-economy growth through innovation, skills and sustainable coastal development.
