Pere Granados

Mayor of Salou

Pere Granados Carrillo has been the mayor of Salou since 2009 and has been one of the main drivers of the tourism, cultural, and sustainable development model that has transformed this municipality on the Costa Daurada into an international reference.

He holds a Law degree and has a solid political and institutional career. Currently, he serves as a deputy in the Diputación de Tarragona, where he presides over the Economic Promotion Commission, and he has also been president of the Alliance of Sun and Beach Tourist Municipalities (AMT), from where he promoted the modernization and diversification of Spain’s major tourist destinations.

During his tenure, Salou has achieved notable successes, including its designation as the Catalan Capital of Culture 2025, with a program that strengthens local cultural identity and projects it internationally; the consolidation of its certification as a family-friendly tourist destination, with a strong commitment to sports, cultural, sustainable, and inclusive tourism; and the restoration of its natural, historical, and landscape heritage through emblematic projects such as the Costa Trail and the Route of the 43 Viewpoints, in addition to Salou’s recognition as Villa Florida.

Granados has also promoted the hosting of major international events, such as Festa al Cel 2025, which will place Salou on the map of major European airshows. All of this is complemented by a comprehensive vision of social and urban transformation aimed at ensuring the quality of life and well-being of both residents and visitors.

His leadership has turned Salou into an example of an open, competitive, and globally connected city. He is also a frequent speaker at national and international forums, where he presents Salou’s successful tourism model and shares strategies on sustainability and economic diversification.

As president of the Municipal Tourism Board, he drives the creation of new products and experiences to promote off-season tourism and strengthen Salou’s position on the European tourism map. He often reminds people that “the best city to spend your holidays is also the best place to live.”

BC04 · Local Intelligence for Coastal Territories: Technology, Data, and Networks

Digitalization is no longer an option: it is an essential tool for coastal municipalities to advance in sustainability, efficiency, and foresight. This roundtable will bring together leading mayors from the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities (AMT) and representatives from the main smart city networks in Spain and Latin America to analyze how digital transformation, applied at the local level, can address the major challenges facing the coastline.

Real-life success stories will be presented on the use of technology for water, energy, mobility, and tourism management, as well as the importance of interoperability, data analytics, and shared platforms. The goal is to build a common agenda for smart territorial cooperation, anchored in the blue economy and aligned with European funds and international missions.
