Pedro Sánchez-Fortún

Manager. Provincial Association of Hospitality Entrepreneurs of Almería (ASHAL)

He was born on July 29, 1977, curiously the day on which Santa Marta, patron saint of the hospitality industry, is celebrated.

He grew up watching his father become one of the leading hospitality entrepreneurs in Almería (Marisquería Baviera) and perhaps because of this, despite starting out in computer engineering, which he still pursues as a hobby, he finally chose to study business at the University of Almería to open his own business in 2004: Las Botas, an Andalusian-style wine cellar where you can sample a wide variety of wines, cold cuts, fish, meat, and traditional Almeria dishes.

His commitment to the hospitality sector led him to hold several positions on the board of ASHAL until the unexpected death of Diego Garcia Molina, former president of the association, led him to assume the presidency in the midst of the post-pandemic, a position he has held ever since.

Description

This session, organized by the General Secretariat for Fisheries of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, seeks to place fishing at the center of Spain's tourism, cultural, and territorial narrative. Through a multidisciplinary round table, fishing will be addressed not only as a productive activity, but also as living heritage, its role in shaping coastal towns, its gastronomic contribution, and its evolution towards sustainability. There will be a discussion on how to strengthen the link between the fishing and tourism sectors, with a special focus on sustainability, digitalization, and the promotion of fishing heritage as an experience, a history, and an identity.
