Prof. Peter de Langen
Ports & Logistics expert
Dr. Peter de Langen is the owner and principal consultant of the consulting firm Ports & Logistics Advisory, based in Málaga, Spain. He is also a visiting professor at the Copenhagen Business School, where he focuses on advancing research in port and logistics issues.
Between 2007 and 2013, Peter worked as a Senior Advisor in the Corporate Strategy department of the Port of Rotterdam Authority (PoR). He serves as the chairman of the Innovation Council of the Dutch Innovation Center for Inland Shipping, co-director of the knowledge dissemination platform, co-organizer of conferences and training events, and a regular speaker at industry conferences on ports and transport. At PoR, Peter participated in and led several strategic renewal projects, such as the development of a national port policy for the Dutch government, the creation of a corporate strategic plan for 2015–2022, the preparation of long-term cargo forecasts, and the formulation of a Port Vision for 2030. He was also involved in a range of business development initiatives and conducted in-house training programs.
In his work with the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Peter de Langen contributed to a variety of international projects, including the development of a business plan for the Port of Suape (Brazil), a national port master plan for Brazil, and a comprehensive port analysis for the Port Commerce Department of the Port Authorities of New York and New Jersey. Peter continues to work with the Port of Rotterdam Authority as an independent advisor. In 2013, Peter founded Ports & Logistics Advisory (PLA). The firm engages in consulting, research, and executive education in ports and logistics for organizations worldwide. PLA strives to ensure its contributions have a high impact on projects and organizations.

The goal of this event is to explore opportunities and challenges in the Mediterranean region for Europe and its ports, and to discuss how the European Global Gateway strategy can help shaping the future of this area. We are already counting on the participation of several leading Mediterranean ports, ESPO members, and the European Commission. It would be an honor to enrich the panel with your experience and insights.
The session will focus on:
- Port-led decarbonisation (OPS/shore power, alternative fuels and bunkering readiness).
- Resilient and interoperable maritime logistics linking EU and Southern Neighbourhood value chains
- Blue-economy growth through innovation, skills and sustainable coastal development.
