- BC05 - Sustainable Tourism Plans in Destinations: Andalusia in Action
BC05 - Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans: Andalusia in Action.
From plans to the real transformation of coastal destinations.
Andalusia is leading the way in Spain by implementing Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans (PSTD). Financed by Next Generation EU funds and coordinated through the Tourism Sustainability Strategy in Destinations, these plans are structured around four pillars: green and sustainable transition, energy efficiency, digital transition, and competitiveness. These pillars are the levers for transforming our territories. The Andalusian community is relying on its META 2027 General Plan for Sustainable Tourism and the recently approved Draft Bill on Sustainable Tourism in Andalusia (February 2025) to integrate these pillars into tourism planning.
This roundtable event will showcase the tangible outcomes achieved by coastal destinations that are currently implementing their DSTPs, ranging from urban regeneration and climate change adaptation initiatives on the Cádiz coast (Bolonia and Tarifa), to digitalisation projects in Almuñécar (Granada), energy efficiency enhancements and infrastructure upgrades in Huelva, and diversification and competitiveness initiatives in coastal municipalities in Almería, including Mojácar. The roundtable will also address aspects of governance and citizen participation, as well as how projects align with the Andalusian Strategy for a Sustainable Blue Economy and the Green Deal.
PSTDs are establishing themselves as genuine tools for local development, reducing environmental impact, modernising services, improving accessibility, and generating employment linked to the blue economy. This strengthens the competitiveness of destinations and improves the well-being of citizens.
T02 - Public Investment and the Transformation of Blue Tourism
From European funds to new opportunities for smart destinations
This roundtable will address the legacy of Next Generation funds in promoting blue tourism, particularly through Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations. Two replicable success stories will be presented, along with new financing opportunities such as the €7 million program from Red.es and the EDIL Strategy. The goal is to offer a practical roadmap for scaling sustainable and innovative solutions in tourist destinations.
