Carmen Pita Urgoiti is the Director of Tourism Promotion at Turismo de Galicia, an agency under the Presidency of the Xunta de Galicia. She holds a degree in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid, a Master’s in Human Resources Management from CESMA Business School, a Master’s in Organizational Communication from the Complutense University, and an MBA from the University of A Coruña.

This panel will address how coastal tourist destinations can apply circular economy principles to improve their sustainability and competitiveness. Through case studies, strategies such as waste reduction, energy and water efficiency, sustainable mobility, support for local businesses, and business innovation will be explored. The benefits of this approach and the challenges of achieving the ambitious European circularity targets for tourism by 2030 will also be discussed.
