SE02 - The European Water Resilience Strategy: A View from Andalusia

The European Union is developing a Water Resilience Strategy that aims to prioritise water in policies on climate change adaptation, territorial cohesion, and ecological transition. This initiative, which forms part of the European Green Deal, has three main objectives: restoring and protecting the water cycle; promoting a water-efficient economy; and ensuring access to clean, affordable water for everyone.

 The European Committee of the Regions has emphasised that water management must be considered not only from an environmental perspective, but also as an economic, social and territorial challenge affecting the competitiveness, security and well-being of citizens. The future strategy proposes collaborative governance, adequate funding and nature-based solutions as essential pillars for strengthening water resilience at all levels of government.
