Manuel Pleguezuelo Alonso has been responsible for blue economy policies at the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission since 2020.

He is in charge of regional maritime cooperation in the Western Mediterranean and the outermost regions of the EU, and is part of the economic analysis team for blue economy sectors.

He has been an associate professor of Public International Law and EU Law at the University of Murcia, and a consultant in the Public Sector, European Projects, and Social Development. He was also the Director General of Citizen Participation, European Union, Foreign Action, and Development Cooperation in the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia between April 2014 and August 2019, during which he was also a member of the Committee of the Regions.

From 2010 to 2014, he was Vice Dean of the Official College of Political Sciences and Sociology of the Region of Murcia.
