Julio De La Rosa
Professor of botany at University of Granada. Director of aula del mar and coordinator of the CEIMAR campus.
PhD in Biology from the University of Granada. From 2004 to 2021, he worked as an Associate Professor of Botany at the University of Granada and as a technician in the Sustainable Marine Environment Management Program of the Regional Government of Andalusia. In June 2021, he was appointed as a Tenured Lecturer at the University of Granada, where he currently develops his academic activity. He is also Director of Aula del Mar and Coordinator of the International Campus of the Sea (CEIMAR) at the same university. He has carried out research stays at the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galápagos Islands, the Interdisciplinary Center of Marine and Environmental Research in Porto, and the University of Palermo, focusing on invasive marine macroalgae and macroalgal biodiversity. His research interests include the taxonomy of aquatic photosynthetic organisms (marine and continental), the management and conservation of marine ecosystems, and invasive alien species in the marine environment, collaborating as a scientific advisor with environmental administrations in these fields. Among the research projects in which he has participated are: Analysis of the Expansion of Invasive Exotic Algae on the Andalusian Coast: Origin, Invasion Process, Impact Assessment and Prevention Strategies in a Climate Change Scenario (Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation); A Multidisciplinary Project to Study the Invasion of Asparagopsis taxiformis in the Western Mediterranean (Regional Government of Andalusia); Iberian Flora of Continental Algae (Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation); as well as the projects LIFE-Posidonia+ Andalucía, focused on the management and conservation of Posidonia oceanica meadows, and Life Climate Change Mitigation, aimed at quantifying carbon stocks stored in seagrass meadows and tidal marshes.
