He is the creator and coordinator of the International Group for Prevention and Lifeguard Activities (GIAPS), which includes 67 public and private entities and 155 researchers, professors, coordinators, lifeguards, and related professionals from 14 countries and 24 universities.
He has received the Honor Medal – International Award for contributions and achievements in drowning prevention from the Koninklijke Maatschappij tot Redding van Drenkelingen (Royal Society for the Rescue of Drowning Persons), founded in 1767, the oldest organization in the world still active in this field, Amsterdam (Netherlands) (2023).
He is a leading figure in AIDEA (Ibero-American Association of Aquatic Education, Special Needs, and Hydrotherapy) in the area of aquatic safety (2022).
He is an Honorary Professor at the Universidade da Coruña.
He has been a guest professor at 40 universities (21 in Spain and 19 in other countries).
He is the author of 45 books, 50 book chapters, 6 book forewords, 142 articles in international and national journals, 46 audiovisual publications, 7 multimedia publications, and 36 popular science publications.
He holds a PhD and a degree in Physical Education.
