Amaia Rodríguez
Co-CEO GRAVITY WAVE
Founder of The Gravity Wave and winner of the Young máshumano 2020 Award, in the El Corte Inglés category, and also received the special EMPATHY recognition as a "Social Entrepreneur." Amaia Rodríguez lived in China for two years, which allowed her to closely observe how plastic was contaminating remote islands in Southeast Asia and how the inundation of this material was affecting rivers and natural areas.
It was in 2019, motivated by her concern for sustainability and environmental protection, that Amaia decided to take the leap and leave her job to embark on entrepreneurship, alongside her brother Julen. Since then, they have successfully worked on a social entrepreneurship project that generates a positive impact on the planet and people's lives.
The goal of Gravity Wave is to cleanse the seas and oceans of plastic and subsequently recycle it for manufacturing products of various uses, to minimize environmental impact. So far, they have built a network of over 7,000 traditional fishermen spread across 4 Mediterranean countries and collected over 550,000 kilos of garbage and fishing nets.
Through innovation, we have managed to use the collected plastic to transform it into stadium seats, urban furniture, and raw materials.
