Carole Martínez

Senior Policy Manager at MedPAN (Mediterranean network of Marine Protected Areas)

Carole Martinez is a lawyer by training with more than 20 years of experience in coastal, marine and island issues. Carole is part of the United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS) Pool of experts for the World Ocean Assessment. She is as well as of the IUCN World Commission of Protected Areas. 

Carole had the privilege to conduct several policy analyses at the national, European and international levels, to collaborate with the CBD Secretariat and its Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) as well as the Global Island Partnership.  Before joining MedPAN, she worked for the French government developing international cooperation on marine issues, then at IUCN, as Programme manager, she has been leading initiatives to support biodiversity conservation and governance in several regions of the world. She is now, Senior Policy Manager for MedPAN, she is in charge of coordinating policy activities and new partnerships in the Mediterranean region and beyond.
